Philosophy for Rebels 20 - Wisdom
Wisdom paradoxically is often derived from knowing our limitations versus the confidence in what we know.
We accumulate knowledge linearly throughout our lifetime, but our awareness of things we do not understand grows exponentially.
We are humbled by the gap between what little we know and the vastness of all knowledge we can not.
The experience of life inevitably leads us to observe the dichotomy between what is known and what is not. The journey to become more knowledgeable often leads to the frustration that more is always out of reach.
The more we know, the more we recognize the great expanse of what is yet to be known, until it becomes apparent the impossibility of ever knowing anything to the final satisfaction of being complete.
As the gap between what we know and the infinite possibilities of what we don’t grows, so does our humility about our existence. It is this humility that allows us to properly reflect on what we think we know and question if we truly know anything at all.
“There are times when wisdom cannot be found in the chambers of parliament or the halls of academia but at the unpretentious setting of the kitchen table.”

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
