Lens of Reason 15 - Philosophy
Philosophy is not something you read to become wiser.
It is something you do by which you become humbled beneath your ignorance.
The great words of wisdom that we often reflect upon from famous authors and philosophers are simply the final result of a process. An experience of life captured into words, but it is the experience itself that was the meaningful event.
There is a great divide between knowing and understanding. We can read and know something, but few can understand without experiencing it. When we experience something profound it is due to reflecting on how little we understood before.
"Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught."
— Oscar Wilde
