You make a great point re emotional ties that people are developing with AI that are being exported. I can see in the near future that some will say denying the quest for unlimited dollars and energy is akin to extinguishing a potential new form of life.
If the current garden-variety AIs can influence people to do something better than human influencers, it recalls the chess engines that were originally able to defeat the best human players. Sooner or later, probably sooner the way things are going, a super-AI will be developed (if it hasn't been developed already and kept secret); and that AI will be so good at influencing that it will be able to make anyone do anything. That's why I believe the antichrist will be an AI. High on the list of priorities for the super-AI will be the prevention of the worship of God. In Benson's 1907 work (The Lord of the World) the antichrist was a character, and his chief characteristic was universal trust and adulation, even if there was no good reason advanced within the context of the story why this should be so. But now we see how this could happen with an AI. The apocalypse, in the traditional biblical sense, is probably not very far off.

Yes, that wouldn't surprise me. There's an entire Pandora's Box of problems that emerge if we start considering AI a lifeform.
The way LLMs typically respond seems perfectly primed for the “facts and logic” era of redditor arguments lol. Great article, keep it up
Thank you! BTW, that reminds me about a Reddit story I meant to link but forgot.
